Effective principal supervision and support have become increasingly important over the past decade.  Research suggests that effective school leaders have almost the same impact on student success as effective teachers. We know that school leaders do not get better all by themselves.  A very large part of principal growth and development is the direct result of working with a skilled principal supervisor who strategically balances coaching and supervision.  In addition, research asserts, that the principal supervisor plays a critical role in ensuring that the central office is both informed and positioned to morph to the daily needs of schools. School leaders require focused, intentional, and timely support. This just-right support requires a skillful and resourceful principal supervisor who understands how to coach and develop school leaders.  All of this is for naught if the central office is not designed to support the principal supervisor and be nimble enough to morph to the daily needs of schools. The central office plays a pivotal role in ensuring that high-quality learning is happening in our schools.  Schools can achieve results in the absence of a high-performing central office, however in order to reach transformative results the entire central office must act with coherence as they support schools and school leaders. Leaders Developing Leaders will support system leaders in creating a seamless system of support, development, and supervision for principals. By aligning central office functions with the needs of school leaders, districts can transform schools into dynamic environments of learning and achievement.
